Default Extremely Bad Frames Per Second......please help

My PC specs are as follows:

200GB HArd Drive
Radeon 9800 Pro
1GB PC 3200
NF7-s Motherboard
3200AMD CPU Barton

I been playing since launch and have had no problems whatsoever! but recently i got dreadful FPS and i can barely play, its like 10-14fps while moving and like 40fps while standing still and fighting, i really think its got something to do with the last update, and i seen quite a few ppl post here in the tech forum with FPS problems since the update, i have turned my sound quality slider down to the v left, adjusted graphical settings to minimum, turned post process effects off. Reinstalled video card drivers...reinstalled guildwars, futhermore i played UT2004 to see if i have the problem there...but i get 85fps constantly there. Virus and Spyware checked as well. Anything else i could try?

if it has been fine up until now, have you recently updated the graphics drivers?

It sounds like it coulkd be a cpu problem, is your cpu overheating? Are you running background applications?

do ctrl alt delete>perfromance and check your cpu usage, page file usage etc.

also you could try opening:

control panel
system
advanced
perfomance settings
advanced

then make sure they are all set to Programs, and not background services.

Found a "solution" (well semi solution) to my bad frames

I kinda figured it wasnt my pc acting up and i was right

This started happening after the March 14th sound "fix" update. And it explains why every other game runs fine just not guildwars.

i disabled the follow devices, and bang 85fps constant, arenanet has really messed up with the sound imo!

as soon as they are enabled again i get the bad fps (10-20 fps). Now i need a solution to be able to play the game with sound.... reinstall drivers? any other suggestions? btw its onboard sound that comes with motherboard..

Roll back the driver to the previous version and stay with that one, it's easy enough to do.

Edit - sorry misread what you wrote, try to reinstall chipset and audio drivers first, also reinstall direct x

update to my problem, I updated the drivers to the latest but the problem was still there, however a friend has helped me find a temporary fix to this

Start->Control Panel->Sounds And Audio Devices->Under the Speaker Settings Click "Advanced"->Performance Tab->Hardware Acceleration "None"

I now get a v nice and usuable 50-60 frames per sec

This is because the nVidia on-board sound is all Software driven, and Arenanet havent provided any way of turning OFF DS3D and use standard Sound (as it was before) so your 'software' processed sound is causing your CPU to do more work, hence, dropping your FPS, turning off thoes options, and disabling it in device manager etc basically stops it using that...
